Aug 28, 2012 at 13:14 comment added Mark Phillips @Jake, it sounds like your task as a developer is to provide specific analytical tools for a Gantt chart. Rather than have our community try to guess at what would be useful for your stakeholders, tell us what they are looking for and we can help you achieve that goal. Or, are you trying to build a whole new tool for the general market? (In which case, this is not the place for that kind of question.)
Aug 28, 2012 at 9:34 comment added Jake @adosaiguas I am just looking in general. If you were to use a gantt chart, why would you use it in the first place? There is likely some more deeper information (other than time start/end dates) you can derive/analyse from it, but what is it? What is the important information that makes you want to use a gantt chart.
Aug 28, 2012 at 9:12 comment added adosaiguas @Jake, Are you going to analize generic Gantt charts or the ones generated by an specific software like MS Project? The problem is that a generic Gantt chart is just a graphical representation of a project plan, but some project management software, like MS Project, has enhanced it a bit, to graphically represent those important metrics to a PM.

Aug 28, 2012 at 1:27 comment added jmort253 Hi @Jake, let me know what you think of my editing experiment. I'm hoping this will get you the answers you're looking for as well as some extras! We prefer questions that ask for explanations rather than lists, but as I mentioned before, if this doesn't work for you, you can click the "edited" link above my photo and roll it back. I'll leave it open either way. Hope this helps!

edited the question to ask for explanations of the types of analysis that project managers will do with the Gantt charts to make this more on-topic and constructive.
Aug 28, 2012 at 1:19 comment added jmort253 @Jake - Don't worry about deleting, but if you don't mind, I'm going to edit your question a bit to make it more on topic. If I lose the heart of your message, feel free to rollback.
Aug 28, 2012 at 1:17 comment added Jake @jmort253 Thanks for your comment. Please see my reply to MarkPhilips. The specific area of interest is project management using gantt charts. Not sure if that is specific enough. Otherwise, I'll delete the question and rethink about it. Thanks.
Aug 28, 2012 at 1:14 comment added Jake @MarkPhillips that's the exact question i am asking -- what kind of (perhaps common) analysis do Project Managers analyse from Gantt Charts. Need the terminologies so I can look up it further.
Aug 28, 2012 at 1:02 comment added jmort253 Jake, it sounds like you have a lot of questions about project management. Is there something more specific you could ask our community of experts? We thrive on helping people solve problems, not just giving people lists of things. If you can edit with more specifics, then great. If not, I'll leave this open for the community to decide. If you do get some good answers from this, I hope you use that info to ask us some more specific questions! :) Hope this helps!
Aug 27, 2012 at 17:05 comment added Mark Phillips What kind of analysis is your software supposed to do? That is, what question(s) is the output of your software supposed to help answer?
