There is a psychological factor that must not be underestimated. When you have a new job, some psychological theories say that you have to be accepted by the group, and only after that you can slowly bring your new ideas. It is true, but what I just said is not as important as the law of gravity. Some very innovating compagnies, like Facebook for example, want you ideas now and your projects to be develop quickly, even if you make some mistakes. Innovation is the most important thing there. So you see the spectrum going from a bureaucratic environment (where you can't change almost anything without being marginalised) or a very creative environment (where you will be challenge to reach your highest potential quickly). Between those tow, there is many different shades of possibilities.
